Then in early March, the company decided to cease operations of its few remaining stores in Portland, Oregon.

Why Is Walmart Closing Stores?

Walmart has decided to close 23 of its stores, stating that these stores are “underperforming” and has not revealed any specifics.

They also stated that some of these stores “lose tens of millions of dollars a year.” so naturally, the decision to wind operations of these underperforming stores is necessary.

Additionally, Walmart’s CEO stated that record-breaking retail theft had hurt the company’s economic performance in 2020.
