The Upper Falls
You can stay inside the park, but you can also camp nearby at the Houghton-Letchworth KOA, about 20 minutes from the park’s Portageville gate.
If you arrive early in the morning, there is plenty of parking. You come to a halt right below the active railroad bridge as you reach the Portageville entry.
You can even see the train crossing the bridge! The Portage Viaduct is a 963-foot-long “deck arch bridge” with a 483-foot arch that rises 240 feet over the Upper Falls.
It’s also a great place to start the Gorge Trail and see the Upper Falls. The views, as well as the bridge, are breathtaking!
Middle Falls
With a plunge of 107 feet, the Middle Falls is the tallest of the three main falls. The route to the Middle Falls is behind the Glen Iris Inn.
The falls are illuminated at night, making for a stunning sight! You may return to the park at night to see the falls; all you have to do is present your parking receipt at the park’s entry or your campsite.
